Battery Storage

Store the solar power you don’t use during the day and use it at night, when panels aren’t generating and grid rates are highest. A battery shortens your payback period and maximises your savings, and if you ever need more power, your home simply draws from the grid as normal.

Hybrid Inverter

A high-power hybrid inverter manages power between your panels, battery, home and the grid in real time. Live monitoring on your phone shows exactly how much your system is producing and saving, and hybrid systems can work alongside an EV charger or heat pump later.

Every panel is secured on a strong, corrosion-resistant mounting system, set at the correct angle and designed to withstand UK wind and weather.

Solar PV system connected to the grid for Smart Export Guarantee payments

Grid Connection & SEG

We connect your system to the national grid so you can sign up to a Smart Export Guarantee tariff and get paid for every unit of surplus electricity you export. SEG rates are set by each energy supplier.

Smart app for monitoring solar generation and savings

Smart Monitoring

A monitoring app shows how much electricity your panels generate, how much you use and what you save in real time, so you can run appliances when solar output is highest.

Solar Panel Installation FAQs

How much does solar panel installation cost in the UK?

Most UK homes pay £4,500–£15,000 for a fully installed solar PV system. A 3 kWp system for a 1–2 bedroom home costs around £4,500–£5,500, while an 8.5 kWp system with battery storage for a 5–6 bedroom home costs around £12,000–£15,000.

How much can I save with solar panels?

You can save an estimated £550–£950 a year, depending on system size, battery storage and how much electricity you use at home. You can also earn extra income by exporting surplus electricity through the Smart Export Guarantee.

Can you still get free solar panels in the UK?

Most households won’t get solar panels completely free. However, solar panel installations currently benefit from 0% VAT (until 31 March 2027, after which it is scheduled to rise to 5%), and some eligible low-income households may qualify for government-funded energy upgrades. We also offer £0-upfront finance, so you can spread the cost in monthly instalments, subject to status.

Is it still worth getting solar panels in the UK?

Yes, for most homes with a suitable roof. The UK gets enough daylight for panels to generate all year: a well-sited system produces roughly 850–950 kWh per kWp each year, so a 5.6 kWp system can generate around 4,800–5,300 kWh annually. With payback in around 7–18 years and panels lasting 25 years or more, you get well over a decade of low-cost electricity.

How many solar panels do I need for my house?

A 1–2 bedroom home typically needs up to 6 panels (up to 3 kWp), a 3–4 bedroom home 8–12 panels (up to 5.6 kWp) and a 5–6 bedroom home 14–18 panels (up to 8.5 kWp). The exact number depends on your roof size, orientation and electricity use, which we confirm with a free survey.

Do I need planning permission for solar panels?

In most cases, no. Solar panels on most UK homes are covered by permitted development rights. You may need permission if your home is a listed building, is in a conservation area or World Heritage Site, or if the panels would stick out more than 200 mm from the roof surface. These rules apply in England; Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have slightly different rules. We check this for you during the survey.

My roof doesn't face south. Can I still get solar panels?

Yes. South-facing roofs generate the most, but east- or west-facing roofs typically produce around 15–20% less and are still well worth it, especially with a battery. North-facing roofs are usually less suitable. We confirm the expected output for your roof during the survey.

Can I install solar panels myself?

It isn’t recommended. Solar panels involve working at height and electrical work that must meet UK Building Regulations, and your system must be installed by an MCS-certified installer to qualify for Smart Export Guarantee payments.

Should I wait for solar panels to get cheaper?

Waiting usually costs more than it saves. Every year without solar means paying full price for grid electricity, and the current 0% VAT on residential solar is scheduled to end on 31 March 2027. Getting a quote now lets you compare the numbers for your home.

What happens if something breaks after installation?

Solar panels, batteries and inverters are covered by their manufacturers’ warranties, and panels rarely fail because they have no moving parts. The inverter is the part most likely to need replacing during the system’s life, usually after 10–15 years. Contact us and we’ll arrange a check and repair.

How long does solar panel installation take?

Installing a typical home solar system takes 1–2 days, including scaffolding, fitting the panels, installing the inverter and battery, and testing the system.

Is a solar battery worth it?

A battery is worth it if you’re out during the day or use most of your electricity in the evening. It stores daytime solar power for later, so you use more of the electricity you generate and buy less from the grid.

Do solar panels work in cloudy weather or winter?

Yes. Solar panels generate electricity from daylight, not heat, so they still work on cloudy days and in winter, just at a lower output than in summer.

How long do solar panels last?

Solar panels typically last 25–30 years or more, losing a small amount of efficiency each year. Inverters usually need replacing once during that time, after around 10–15 years.

What is the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)?

The Smart Export Guarantee is a government scheme that requires larger energy suppliers to pay you for surplus solar electricity you export to the grid. Your system must be MCS certified to qualify, and export rates vary by supplier.
